Hell Is Other People

The title of this post is from the play No Exit by Jean-Paul Sarte. I thought it appropriate given the single quotation I’m going to post today from Managing Transitions:

People are really different — they aren’t just “defective” versions of yourself.

If you think about it, that truth has pretty profound implications on how we ought to evaluate other people. At least it does for me, because so often that’s exactly how I see those with whom I disagree: defective. And most of the time it just ain’t so.
